Tanya Baker is an Australian born Painter, living and working on various country within Australia.

Artist Statement

My work, although abstract, is steeped in nature. It is a study of the infinite hues of the earth,  an ongoing attempt to distil a feeling, and also the experience, of being in nature.

Through the language of paint, I explore the organic shapes and textures of the bush: the imagined networks of mycelium beneath our feet, the tangled skeins of tree branches, and the deep glow of backlit grasses.

Using natural earth tones, repeated lines, and layered forms, I aim to capture the spontaneous rhythms of the landscape, It’s haphazard line, shifting tones, and raw textures. 

It is a continual search for balance between colour and mark-making, where the energy of nature, its chaos and harmony, can be felt.

This is an artist who has the incredible ability to observe and express a somewhat seemless relationship with the natural environment that surround us. Tanya Baker has an incredible catalogue of work that spans over decades.

The movement, layering and rhythm can truely be felt when observed. This is an artist whom I deeply admire, their life is art, in all aspects. The physical markings she has created on paper, ply and canvas are all incredibly complex and considered. Anyone fortunate enough to have acquired a Tanya Baker of their own has a valuable piece of the art world.

The featured work, is unique in a sense that it is not in the realm of painting (although very painterly). It is a series of lino prints which is a departure from the usual medium Tanya works in.
