The Artist/
DAMON KOWARSKY
Printmaker

Damon Kowarsky is an artist and printmaker who travels extensively. Damon lives and works in Melbourne [Naarm] Australia. He is well accomplished and known for his evocative and intricately detailed works that blend architectural precision with a deep sense of place and memory. Damon studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, the Glasgow School of Art, and RMIT University, where he honed his expertise in drawing and printmaking. His practice is deeply informed by his travels, as he captures the essence of urban landscapes and the interplay between nature and the built environment.

Damon's work is characterised by its meticulous attention to detail and the quiet, contemplative atmosphere it evokes. He employs traditional techniques, particularly etching and aquatint, to create pieces that are both modern and timeless. His art has been exhibited internationally, including the United States, Europe, and Asia, Australia and is held in numerous private and public collections.

In addition to his artistic practice, Damon has a strong commitment to collaboration and teaching, frequently engaging with communities and other artists to explore new ideas and perspectives. His work reflects a deep appreciation for cultural diversity and the shared human experience, making him a celebrated figure in contemporary printmaking and visual storytelling.

‘Finding words to illustrate the impact Damons’ work has is a challenge, not a challenge I often find myself experiencing when I sit down to share/write my perspective on artwork I admire. So in writing this perspective I am somewhat arrested before I even begin. It’s unusual and unfamiliar.

I firstly urge you to seek out Damons work in the ‘flesh’ so to speak. Given his work is celebrated and kept in many galleries and collections worldwide, I encourage you wholeheartedly to one day share the same room as one of his pieces of work (that’s if you can’t make it to our teeny tiny little Far South Coast Gallery). If you are quiet and still enough, I almost imagine you might see the wind blow through the leaves in one, or a bird flap its wings. Somehow his works feel like at any minute they could come to life. I very much sense that Damons’ prints must be seen to be truely felt. The incredible depths of detail, repetition, shape, contour, these are all executed with true mastership. It is in viewing the artwork on the paper (not digitally) that the time, hours, and the days and weeks that go into a piece that their magic truely deeply transpires’
